Pontificate

I'm going to speak to an accounting class at UH tomorrow (University of Hawaii Shidler College of Business). Hopefully I will be more engaging than just standing in front of the room pontificating. Although I think I would look pretty good in a Pope's hat.

Shirely Daniel (Professor, PhD, all around good egg) invited me to speak to her senior level (undergrad) management accounting class. I do have a degree in accounting, although that's not what I do. But looking at the sample of materials she's sent me, the class is more about good business than just a narrow view of accounting.

The class includes discussions of Lean and Supply Chain Management as these topics relate to the accounting function. This is right up my alley, and I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

Hi Steve,

you might be interested in The Fresh Connection that apics in Australia are now using. It is a role play for 4 SCMgers, Ops, Sales, Supply and SCM who need to salvage a juice making company and make it profitable. www.thefreshconection.com.au will give you some information. The participants make decisions and submit these as a group ie the S&OP is signed off. This is effectively for a 6 month period. The result is returned in a few minutes as the ROI and the 5 KPIs for each manager. they then make a new set of decisions for the next "6 months". This happens in the training course for 5 rounds. Ideal for a Business Management Undergraduate group work activity. It is being used in several European and UK Unis as an integral component in their degree courses.

Let me know if you want to know more. Of course it can be also sold as training to companies....

Cheers
